Fitness Training

Fitness equipmentAt Serenity Pilates, we are more than just about personal training, we partner with you and provide you with personal attention. With the friendships that are made in classes and how others care when you aren't there, it really does become like a little family... kind of like the "Cheer's" of gym's where everyone knows your name. WE encourage each other and give that little push when you think you can't do it; funny what a little camaraderie and a peer setting can do.

We recommend that you train at least 2 times per week. Most people experience the best results if they train 2 -3 times a week. All classes are 60 minutes.

I began training with Holly in April 2003. I have gone from a size 5X-dress size to a 2X. When I first began at the gym, I was barely able to do a 1/2 hour twice a week. I now go three times a week for one hour each session. I am thrilled with my results, and I am pleased I chose Holly as my trainer. She understands what I can do and what I am yet unable to do. I am aware that exercise is a lifetime commitment. I only wish I had started much earlier in my life.

Small Group Training

Small group trainingThis specialized class offers most of the benefits of having a Personal Trainer but at a fraction of the cost. In this class we do a circuit-style workout so we never let the heart rate drop, which is optimal for the fat burning cycle.

It is a fun filled, fast paced cycle, led by a Certified Personal Trainer. Form and technique are never compromised; and we use both free weights and machines.

The classes range from 4-6 people and it is a great places to bring and make friends.

Personal One-on-One Training

One on One Personal TrainingThis is a private or semi-private session where I design a specific program just for you. This is a tailored made workout for your specific needs and goals; whether it be fat loss, muscle mass gain or general fitness improvement, I will create a program specific to meet your goals.

You can pick times from 30, 45 or 60 minute sessions, depending on your budget and schedule. We will focus on your core strength, working on the inside out as you strengthen your inner body - what is known as the "power house".

STOTT Pilates™

Pilates A very specific repertoire of movements designed by Josef Pilates, this class is all mat based with the use of props, BOSU, Arc Barrel, Foam Roller, bands, Fitness Circle, small and large balls and weighted Balls. Pilates™ is designed to build strength while developing longer leaner muscles, flexibility and range of motion in the joints. While once barely able to roll down past my knees I can now get my whole hand on the floor. 4 person max per class.

What is Pilates?

Pilates (pronounced "pi-LAH-tees") is a revolutionary full body conditioning program comprised of a series of approximately 500 designed movements performed on the mat or specific apparatus. Although Pilates conditioning was developed more than 75 years ago and was initially used by dancers and athletes, it became one of the most popular exercise methods of the '90s. The Pilates Method was developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the early 1920s, blending the Eastern and Western philosophies of mental and physical conditioning.

The primary focus in Pilates is on the abdomen, lower back, and buttocks, which comprise the core ("power center") of the body. The system is designed to increase flexibility, build strength, and tone muscles. Emphasis is on body awareness, controlling body alignment, and correct breathing through concentration to promote efficient movement. The result is a strong flexible body, with muscles that are lengthened and toned, rather than isolated areas of muscle mass.

Why Pilates

Pilates's graceful moves won't burn fat like cardio exercise (nothing can replace cardio exercise) practitioners report leaner hips and thighs, smaller waists and more toned muscles. A long, lean physique is not the only benefit. Pilates also opens up the lungs and diaphragm and stretches the back, you'll feel better about yourself and more able to cope with stress and rigours of life. The repertoire consists of 500 systematic mat based mind-body exercises which are delivered in preparatory, essential, intermediate and advanced levels to deliver uniquely effective workout formats.

Why STOTT™ Pilates

The STOTT™ Pilates is an anatomically based approach to the original exercise method pioneered by Joseph Pilates. It incorporates modern exercise science and rehabilitation principles, eliminating contradicted movements while emphasizing neutral alignment, core stability and peripheral mobility.

Day and Evening classes starting weekly. Class sizes will range from 1 on 1 up to a maximum of 4 on 1. Rates vary depending on class size. Sign up now and start working on a new you.

Who Should Do Pilates?

Due to the non-impact nature of Pilates, it is suitable for the young and old, the physically active, and the sedentary. Many physical therapists include Pilates work as a follow-up for patients.

Pilates complements activities such as walking, running, swimming, golf, skiing, and other aerobic sports. Computer operators and musicians can also use this unique fitness system to reduce or prevent neck and shoulder strain.

When pregnant with my first son, I ended up with a debilitating amount of pelvic discomfort; from about 5 months until the birth, I could hardly walk and found stairs nearly impossible. I have always been a healthy, fairly active person and was very frustrated since I'd never had issues like that with my other pregnancies. We put it down to me being older, muscles not being as fit and resilient. When we found out that baby boy #2 was on the way, I most definitely didn't want to experience that again! I talked to my doctor and Holly, and they both felt that I could benefit from palates to tone and strengthen the muscles needed to support a growing baby.

I enrolled in a beginner Pilates class at Holly's home studio; though not advertised as a maternity class, Holly went above and beyond to research pregnancy-friendly exercises and stretches and incorporate them in a way that the other women in the class could benefit as well. I loved the small class size and opportunity for one-on-one coaching. My mobility throughout the pregnancy was far better than the previous one, and my time in the class had an unexpected benefit – the little guy decided to be breach and during the ECV (external cephalic version) to turn him, using breathing techniques from the class made things much easier for me.

Lose 14 - 20 lbs in Eight Weeks

This quick start program will send you on your way to shedding those unwanted pounds. Get started now, and learn how to make healthy choices even when dining out.
Longer programs are available.

I began training with Holly since 2004, because I had a lot of weight to lose and I was not very active. I needed not only a personal trainer, but a weight loss motivator as my eating habits weren't the best. Holly has been both. I joined her "Weigh Less 4 Life" program as well as doing personal training. From July 8 to Oct 5 I lost 31.25 pounds and 28.5 inches, 7.25 of those inches from my waist alone.

I train with Holly 3+ times a week and continue to be weighed and measured on a weekly basis. She looks at my food journal and has no problem telling me when I made a bad choice and praising me when I have overcome obstacles.

I find her (Holly) easy to be with, motivational and she takes every one of her clients needs and goals to heart and does her best to help you have success. I am halfway to my goal weight and have no intention of stopping. I love the "me" I am becoming and everyone at work has nothing but positive comments.
